Man Of War

From the Ok Computer Sessions. I really hear Beatles St. Peppers in there.

ERWIN WURM

Austrian artist Erwin Wurm known for his sculptures. Cool take on common things.

Scale and dimensions are a trip. According to a resent New York Times profile from Venice Biennale, his "One Minute Sculptures" were credited in the 2002 Red Hot Chili Peppers video "Can't Stop" Haven't seen that video or heard those sounds in a long time - that record is really nostalgic for me.

Annie Jacobsen

Annie Jacobsen writes books and contributes to the Los Angeles times. She is an extremely committed investigative journalist. She takes fringe issues head on. She is a digger - completely inspiring. She is a combination of Mulder and Scully. I read Area 51 and it was awesome. Phenomena sounds fascinating. It investigates government investigations of Extrasensory Perception and Psychokinesis. She spoke with RadioWest in Salt Lake this week.

The Tiny Desk Concerts

Leigh showed me the Anderson Paak + Free Nationals concert on Saturday. It reminded me that whenever I feel bad about the state of the world, just watch a Tiny Desk Concert.

A New York Times reporter and a Coal Miner have a conversation...

On Thursday's podcast 'The Daily's' Michael Barbaro called former coal miner Mark Gray who worked in coal mines for 38 years in Kentucky. Or as some might say, a 'liberal coastal media elite' talks with a 'fly-over state working class coal miner.' The conversation is really remarkable. It is incredible how little each man understands about their respective realities. About how inconsequential facts become when you live life emotionally day in and day out. 'Walk a mile in someone else's shoes' seems as relevant as ever. This conversation is a microcosm of modern day American divisiveness. At the end of the day, it is two people talking together and what happens is remarkable. I would imagine both men feel differently today than they did yesterday.

Give it a listen here. It starts 9 minutes in.

KENNY LOGGINS - CONVICTION OF THE HEART, 1991

THIS WAS MY JAM! THIS CONCERT WAS LIVE FROM THE GRAND CANYON IN 1991. I TAPED ON ON PBS, I THINK, AND WATCHED IT OVER AND OVER. ESPECIALLY CONVICTION OF THE HEART. THIS NEW AGE-Y, CULT-LIKE, ADULT CONTEMPORARY, 90'S ENVIRONMENTALISM IS SOO AMAZING. SOMEHOW ALSO COINCIDING WITH GEN-X SEATTLE BASED GRUNGE MAKES IT ALL MORE COMPELLING.
